I am the Principal at David Livingstone Elementary School in Vancouver School District #39. It is K-7, with many of the same challenges found in schools across the Lower Mainland. This is my second Principal assignment and have been here since January 2015. My first appointment was Dr. H.N. MacCorkindale Elementary and I had been there since January 2012. It was the first open area school design in Vancouver (1967) and has a newly renovated 21st Century Learning space that is a model for many of the new school construction occurring throughout the District. Prior to that, I've been a Vice-Principal for 6 years at three different schools across the city. All with a wide range of experiences that I continue to take with me today. The best part of those assignments were the relationships I formed along the way and the excitement of introducing new ideas to both the experienced and new teachers.
I have an outstanding wife of over 10 years, a Kindergarten teacher also in Vancouver, and two children of 10 and 8 years old, Kyle and Zoie. These are two of the reasons why I have such a vested interest in ensuring students in my schools are allowed to be creative and inspired to learn. Ironically, I'm so involved with teaching technology at my schools, that my own children are aware, but not fully wired in at home. Their time will come I assume. Many times they ask me things and I just tell them to go and look it up themselves - which they can do. Constructivism at both home and work.
